We give thanks to God for the previous lesson, which showed us the Ark of the Covenant and the scrolls as symbols of God’s commitment to preserving His Word. They represent authority, transmission, guidance, and accountability. The Ark and scrolls were powerful symbols of God’s faithfulness to safeguard and pass on His message to future generations.

As we celebrate Palm Sunday, remembering Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We are reminded of the significant role the Holy Spirit plays in preserving God’s Word. Referred to as the “Spirit of Truth” (Jn. 16:13), the Holy Spirit has guided the preservation of the Scripture throughout history. He inspired the writers, ensuring an accurate record of God’s Message. The Holy Spirit has also protected, guided and inspired reformers throughout history, ensuring that the Scripture remains available to future generations.

May our hearts be filled with deeper appreciation for the Holy Spirit’s work in safeguarding ‘God’s Word and inspiring believers throughout history.

LESSON OUTLINE

  1. INSPIRATION AND AUTHENTICATION
  2. ILUMINATION AND APPLICATION

LESSON EXPOSITION

INSPIRATION AND AUTHENTICATION (Matt. 5:18; 2 Tim.3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2Tim.3:16-17)

a) Matt 5:18: esus stresses that the Scripture is permanent and authoritative. Every detail wil be fulfilled and will remain true until all its promises and prophecies come to pass.

b) 2 Tim. 3:16-17: All Scripture is God-breathed.. The phrase “God-breathed” emphasises the divine origin and inspiration in the Scripture.
c) The inspiration comes from the Holy Spirit (Heb. “ruach”, “breath’ or “wind”; Grk. “pneuma” ‘soul” or “breath”), who guided the human writers of the Scripture to accurately record God’s Word (Gen. 1:2; Acts 2:1-4).

d) The Holy Spirit guided the Bible’s writers, ensuring they recorded God’s Word, not their own ideas (Acts 1:16; 2 Pet.
1:20-21). He established the authority (Ps. 119:160; 2 Tim. 3:16-17) and guarantees its truth and trustworthiness (Ps. 119:160; Jn. 17:17; Rev.22:18-19).

e) 2 Pet. 1:20-21: The Spirit guides the holy men to accurately write the Scripture, ensuring its divine origin, authority and
reliability (cf. jn. 14:26; 16:13; Heb. 1:1-2).

f) The Holy Spirit is vital in confirming the truth of the Scripture. He preserves the Bible, keeping it free from corruption (Matt 5:18;Ps. 119:89; Isa.40:8).

ILLUMINATION AND APPLICATION (Ps. 119:130; 1 Cor. 2:10-12)

But God has revealed them to us through His spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
(1 Cor. 2:10)

a) 1 Cor. 2:10-12: The Holy Spirit reveals God’s thoughts and plans to His people. He has fullkowledge and intimate understanding of His will.

b) The Holy Spirit lightens up the Scripture by revealing spiritual truths (1 Cor. 2:10-14), guiding interpretation (Jn. 16:13), and enabling us to understand its deeper meanings (Lk. 24:45; Eph. 1:17-18).

c) He empowers us to obey God’s Word, transforms our lives (2 Cor. 3:18), and guides our decisions (Ps. 119:105; Prov.
3:5-6).

d) Ps. 119:130: The psalmist refers to the revelation of God’s Word, which provides spiritual light and guidance to believers.
