As the Messiah, Christ offered salvation and His teachings continue to guide us in living God’s will.

Praise be to God for bringing us into another week of studying His Word. Last week, we looked at: The New Covenant in Christ and saw how Jesus fulfilled God’s promises. We pray that, just as God’s promises were fulfilled in Jesus, He will bring His promises to fruition in our own lives.
This week, we turn our attention to: Jesus’ Life, Teachings and Parables. His life is the ultimate example of obedience, love and humility. Born of a virgin, He fulfilled prophecies and demonstrated God’s Kingdom through His words and deeds. His message was simple yet profound—calling us to repent, love one another, and embrace the Kingdom of God.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Jesus’ teachings is His use of parables—short, relatable stories packed with deep spiritual meanings. These parables revealed the mysteries of God’s
Kingdom, urging those who listened to respond with faith and repentance.
As we explore His life and teachings this week, let’s pray that His example shapes how we live and that we grow deeper in His love and understanding. Amen.

LESSON EXPOSITION
JESUS’ LIFE IN VIEW (Matt. 22:37-39; Lk. 4:18-19; Jn. 20:31)
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
(Matt. 1:21)
a) Lk. 4:18-19: Jesus’ life, teachings and parables were key in shaping the NT. His mission fulfilled OT prophecies (Isa. 9:6- 7; 49:8-9; Mic. 5:2) and helped establish the authority of Christian texts.
b) The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) became foundational in the New Testament canon, because they recorded Jesus’ words, miracles and redemptive work On. (Jn. 20:31).
c) Jesus’ emphasis on love, forgiveness and salvation in His parables helped (cf. Lk. 10:25-37; 15:11-32) define the message of the New Testament and shaped Christian identity.
d) Matt. 22:37-39: Jesus frequently quoted and reinterpreted OT laws (cf. Exo. 20:13; Lev. 19:18; Is. 61:1-2), as seen in the Sermon on the Mount. This influenced how the early Church
understood and used the Hebrew scriptures in Christian theology.
e) The Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) set the stage for the early Church’s mission. The apostolic writings of Paul and Peter, influenced by Jesus’ teachings, became part of the
inspired Scripture (2 Pet. 1:16-21).
JESUS’ TEACHINGS AND PARABLES (Matt. 13:31-32; Lk 4:17-21)
And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying… (Matt. 5:2).
a) Jesus’ core message was about God’s kingdom, righteousness, love and faith, teaching repentance (Mk. 1:15) and the necessity of a new birth On. 3:3). His Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) laid out a blueprint for true Christian living.
b) Matt. 13:31-32: Jesus used simple parables from everyday life, making His teachings easy for everyone to understand, while also challenging the self-righteous.
c) Lk. 4:17-21:Jesus fulfilled OT prophecies, showing that He is the Messiah Who would restore humanity. His words still inspire Christians today, linking OT promises with NT truths.
d) Jesus fulfilled the Scripture not just through His words, but His actions. He is the suffering Servant (Isa. 53), the Good Shepherd (Ezk. 34:23) and the light to the Gentiles (Isa. 49:6). His resurrection confirms God’s victory over death and the promise of eternal life, all part of God’s redemptive plan.
